They're going to New Mexico.
It may not be in his time, or even his universe - he won't know until he gets there, and he checks a few details - but they're going to New Mexico.
He can hardly sleep, the night before. He feels...wired. It's almost like he's had a few cups of coffee and a few bowls of the chocolate cereal that Bar tends to tempt him with now and again. He's got his bags already packed (the duffel and a backpack that Kate probably stole from Bill's closet or something) and he's ready to go. He and Kate went to the store earlier to grab anything that they needed.
(Even if it feels a bit strange to be traveling back to New Mexico without a weapon on his person, he has to deal.)
He wants to be there, now. But they're not leaving until tomorrow. It'll come soon enough.
If only he could sleep.
But he can't. He glances over at the small bedside table and spots the iPod that Kate left on the table, earbuds coiled loosely beside it. After a moment's hesitation, he grabs it, settles the buds in his ears, and hits the 'MENU' part of the clickwheel.
She told him how to use it, and after a minute or two of fiddling with the technique (and the volume) he's listening to the music. Skipping what he doesn't like - but most everything gets a chance - he makes his way through the list on 'shuffle'.
(Blissfully unaware of anything going on down the hall.)
Before he falls asleep, he decides to ask Kate about two artists: Elton John and Billy Idol.
----
The next morning finally comes and after a shower (and a breakfast that doesn't involve the smoke detector) they're on their way to the airport in Columbia.
Of course, since Bill has a truck, it means that their bags are riding in the bed and the three of them are sitting up in the cab. Bill's driving, of course - which means that Kate is in the middle and Doc on the right side.
He's trying to focus on the other occupants of the truck.
But the road and all the other vehicles on it...they're just interesting.
"So how long 'till we're there?"
Are we there yet, Bill?

"So how long 'till we're there?"

no subject
He has his backpack snug over his shoulders and his other bag in hand.
(Slowly, he's wandering towards Kate's bags, figuring that while Kate is distracted with saying goodbye to Bill he'll swoop in and grab the larger of her two to carry for her until they get to wherever it needs to be dropped off.)
He's a little nervous, but really excited.
no subject
In her periphery, she sees Doc moving toward her bag, and shakes her head.
"It's got wheels and an extendable handle, Doc -- don't worry about it, I can get it."
Taking a step closer to Bill, she tips her head to look at him.
"Thanks for driving."
no subject
When she steps closer he shifts a little (possibly blocking her view of Doc and the bags) and smiles.
"You're welcome. Gonna call when you get to Dallas?"
no subject
(That doesn't mean he doesn't fiddle with it in a valiant attempt.)
no subject
She places a palm flat against his chest.
"Don't get into too much trouble without us, okay?" she teases.
"And if you're in the bar, could you check for Boo while you're there? She's not back yet, and I hate knowing I won't be there if her door comes back while I'm gone."
no subject
His hand comes up to cover hers on his chest and he nods.
"I'll keep an eye out for her," He promises. "An' don't forget, you promised me a T-shirt."
no subject
(It might get glared at.)
"And I'll keep'n eye out for her," Doc promises Bill, nodding at Kate.
No telling what trouble they might get into, after all.
no subject
She's grinning as she lifts her lips to his, and she's still smiling as she pulls back.
"Get home safe for me."
A beat.
"And don't listen to Doc -- it's not like we're going to be stealing horses or anything."
no subject
The rest of the airport disappears for a moment as he looks down at her, smiling but unable to keep the soft, almost sad look from his eyes.
"I will. Y'all have a good time an' stay safe, too."
Looking over at Doc he points his free hand at him.
"You better keep an eye out, an' there had better not be any horse theivin' on this trip. I'm not pullin' strings for anyone who gets busted."
no subject
"No horse thievin', swear to the Good Lord above."
He points skyward as if to cement the oath, and gives Bill his best 'innocent' face.
no subject
"See you in a couple of days, sheriff."
She wraps her free arm around his waist in a tight hug.
Please don't have any nightmares while I'm not beside you.
"Love you."
no subject
Looking back down at Kate he hugs her back, kissing her again.
"Love you, too."
Giving her hand another squeeze he reluctantly lets go and steps back.
Turning to Doc he extends his hand.
"Take care an' have fun, man. Lemme know what you think of the plane ride."
no subject
"Thanks. I will."
A smirk.
"Probably be scared outta my wits but we just won't tell nobody, and I won't tell nobody 'bout the other morning's show we got with breakfast."
no subject
That's so totally blackmail.
He's grinning again, though, as he pats Doc's back.
"Good."
A beat before he pulls back.
"We'll call it a deal."
Because it's blackmail, but at least this way Bill knows the story isn't going to get out.
Straightening up and stepping back he nods to Doc then looks at both him and Kate.
"See y'all in a couple days."
no subject
He shifts his backpack on his shoulders and steps back.
"See you in a couple of days, and promise t'get you somethin' while we're out."
Bill gets one more hug from Kate and a wave from Doc, before the pair makes their way into the terminal through the sliding glass doors (Doc is never going to get used to those things) and the airport.
